An irreverent (some would say irrelevant)collection of actions, thoughts and encounters (rubbish really) that crosses my mind during each month of my retirement.

I’m not sure, but I think I have contracted “Heart and Kidney” problems of late, insofar as in the hot weather I’m “heart” lazy and often “kidney” be bothered! (Try it with a Scottish accent…the joke works better) Here I am late again with the Ramblings for July and I can offer no excuses.

Edie and Calum flew back to Scotland in the first week of the month just missing out on the week of Denia Fiestas and the now famous Buey al Mar (Bulls by the sea). This annual fun run is where locals and visitors run down the main street being “chased” by some young bulls then enter the arena on the seafront where the bull chases the silly sods who escape by jumping into the sea (sometimes followed by the bull)! I’ve sent photos in previous issues so I wont bore you with more of the same.

Stuart, Mandy, Jessica and her friend came to visit us and we went off to see the grand parade in Denia, here are some of the sights:

Building work restarted on the tower and within 10 days was complete with railings, Lighting and paint-job etc.. I got a bit of a start when one afternoon the intercom announced the arrival of the local police but it turned out to be the official documentation from the town hall to allow the building of the tower (the structure was already built and staring the police in the face)! Such is the way with bureaucracy here in Spain.

Penny has taken up a couple of leisure interests lately, namely Yoga classes on a Tuesday and Watercolour Art classes on a Monday. I am impressed with her artwork as she has never expressed a desire to do this before and yet as a complete beginner, turns out some very vice paintings. I will include a photo or two of her works each month and we will see her ongoing improvement. I am thinking that I might line the inside of the new lift with Penny’s artwork for all visitors to see on arrival.

Sorry, no pictures of Penny doing Yoga!!!!!!!

Our dear friend Julio, who lives in the Dolomites (Italy) has been going through a rough time recently and has had an operation for removing both his prostate and bladder. Julio was, and still is, a very fit man and it was a shock when he found out he had cancer, nevertheless, he seems to have come through his trials and I’m sure, like us, you will all wish him a speedy recovery. It just goes to show that illness can strike anyone of us at anytime so we should count our blessings.

Not only are the “Ramblings” late, but they are also short. It is now the 6th August and we have temperatures in the mid 30’s so I’m off to join Penny for a dip in the pool (which is a constant 30 degrees).

Until next month “hasta luego”

Well Rob, the lift tower really looks wonderful. Wonder what your neighbours will think that it is? could well be a chimney tower for a massive furnace in your garage! Delighted to see that Penny has put paint to canvas and if her early works are anything to judge by, she could be hosting her very own exhibition in the local parish hall in Denia! Well done, Penny! like with you, August is too hot a month to be sitting at a computer, so my comment is likewise short!
